PRE-HISTORY: In 1843, in New England, a man named William Miller concluded from studying Daniel and Revelation that Christ was due to return. This teaching attracted many followers, and obviously, it didn’t happen. It was from this group that several denominations formed, including the Seventh Day Adventists and the Advent Christian General Conference, of which TRBF is a member. THE WEST COAST: In 1871 D. B. Reed began an Advent Christian congregation in Vallejo, California, then began looking northward toward Oregon. In the 1880’s several Advent Christian groups were meeting in Washington County, Oregon. Around this time the Portland church was begun, and by 1905 it was meeting at 1950 SW Second Street, in the area now known as old town. In 1956 the city asked to buy the church property at Second Street, so the congregation moved to 44th and Woodstock and continued to meet there. Again locals asked to buy the property, so in 1963 the church began a five-year period of meeting in temporary locations, until it came to its present location on Thompson Road in Milwaukie, Oregon in January, 1968. For over 30 years we have met here and sought to minister to the community around us. |
